Can you hear me now?

This summer I am working at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort so you can only imagine how excited I was to see an article about them in HT Magazine. The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island recently implemented “multi-carrier cellular voice and data services in all guest areas courtesy of ADC's Digivance in-building coverage system” (HT Magazine, 2008). In other words, no matter what type of cell phone service you have, you will get reception within and around the hotel. T-Mobile originally provided an ADC Digivance system for its own customers but The Sanctuary wanted to enable coverage for users of AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon as well. Wayne Koeckeritz, director of engineering for The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort states, “We host corporate events for companies all over the world, and we wanted to make sure that every guest would have good mobile reception in their rooms as well as throughout our facilities” (HT Magazine, 2008). “The expansion took place over a 90-day period and services went live earlier this year” (HT Magazine, 2008).

I think that this is a great technology for any hotel to have. How many times have you gone somewhere only to discover that you have zero bars. At this point in time, just about everyone has a cell phone. It’s the best way to keep in touch with people. I believe that there will be a very positive response from the guests with the new implementation of the ADC's Digivance in-building coverage system. Providing quality cell phone service to their guests is a great way for Kiawah Island Golf Resort to increase their guest satisfaction.

I think this article is very interesting because it focuses on the consumer today. With the vast use of cell phone and other devices we need the very technology that this article refers to. In my opinion it is a great accomplishment for a technical company to get all of the major phone service operators to look at his proposed idea. The basis of this the need for every guest to have service while there in there hotels. It is also a great thing for an operator to understand the needs and wants of the customer. This article stated that cell are the most commonly used especially for people who travel a great. I have always hated the fact that my cell doesn't work places. I have to say if there is anywhere I need my phone to work is my hotel.

Rosie - First of all, that's sick that you got a job in South Carolina at a golf resort..Should be so much fun. Secondly, I think this technology is extremely important and yet such a simple idea that can increase guest satisfaction at the resort. So many times I have gone into a hotel, restaurant or even the library on UD's campus and not gotten important calls or been able to make important calls. The steel bars and thick walls of buildings really prevent good cell-phone coverage and I think this improvement in technology, in addition to working with companies such as T-Mobile, AT&T and Motorola, will not only improve their target market, but will improve guest satisfaction and maybe even lengthen stays at the resort.
